SYLLABUS

Internet Law  [769]
Professor A.J. Bolla
Summer Term 2005

What this course requires of you:

If you are new to online, self-directed learning, you may find it exciting, yet somewhat daunting. You can set your own pace. You learn by participating actively. You alone are responsible for learning elements of interest to you resulting in a research paper of publishable quality.

Time required:

You can take this course at your own pace during the Summer Term 2005. Completion requires approximately 30 hours of learning effort on the exercises and whatever time you expend on writing your research paper.

Technical requirements:

No special "computer" knowledge is required other than how to use the internet.

Interaction required:

You are expected to communicate with me and others via synchronous chat as our individual times permit. While there are several Instant Messanger programs available, I ask you to use AOL Instant Messenger as the default chat tool. You can sign up for free (http://www.aol.com) and it is accessable via any web browser. There are several brief "how to" tutorials and guides to aide you in using the forum, downloading plug-ins, etc.

Message Board

Threaded discussions and topics are located in the course MESSAGE BOARD on the University Portal. Simply go to the portal and login. Once at your course you will see the message board. Campus Portal There is also a link to the portal on the bottom of every page of this site.

My user ID for AOL Instant Messenger is "
proftono". Email me your AOL Instant Messanger user ID once you have it--to use IM you simply type the user ID in the "TO:" line and hit enter. If the recipient is online, the IM screen will appear and the chat begins---it's simple and intuitive. Most everything
you do for the course online is designed to be intuitive--if you
encounter something that is not, or technical problems, contact me ASAP
via email or contact my secretary, Mrs. Judy McAlister (205) 726-2774
who will know how to reach me by voice--I like most of you, will be
away from the school during the summer, but will be wired and in
contact most of the time.
