Internet Law I
Summer Term 2005
Prof. Bolla
This is a one (1) credit hour directed research course that surveys current laws applicable
to the Internet. Like sea, ocean, coastal, and (yes) space law, Internet
Law is about a place more than a discrete subject matter. The constantly
emerging problems and the legal issues raised, often test, try, and
push traditional legal theories and rules into new directions.
There are 6 exercises designed to merely acquaint you with a topic. The purpose is to quickly expose you to issues that may be of interest to you for research. Each exercise is not a mini course on the topic but merely exposure to guide your thinking and paper topic selection.
While many solutions, at first, seem readily available in the law,
you will quickly notice that you are trying to hit the "legal nail"
with an ice-cream scoop instead of a hammer! Beyond information delivery
problems, lawyers must now understand digital records--how client's
use and misuse computers. The ubiquitous internet also challenges our
understandings and bases for international law--cyberspace and cybertime
have no national boundaries.
