Exercise 8

The Taxman }:-)~

Okay, let's be somewhat open to the possibility that we need (cough, cough) to tax the Internet--Internet commerce is distinguishable as another commodity transaction. We need to be objective about this subject and likewise color outside the lines.

Read The States v. the Dot-Coms

Read E-Commerce Taxes: States Want It!

Read State Tax Policy

Give some thought to the following quote:

"In the area of tax administration and compliance, electronic commerce may create new variations on old issues as well as new categories of issues. The major compliance issue posed by electronic commerce is the extent to which electronic money is analogous to cash and thus creates the potential for anonymous and untraceable transactions."

Would taxing internet sales chill e-commerce sales and would it be worth that risk? Explain. In your answer inlcude your favorite quote about "taxes"---Please, no Ben Franklin or Chick-Fil-A "cow" spin offs---if necessary, make one up!

Send me an e-mail with your reasoned response (200-300 words).

Send to:ajbolla@gmail.com This is the e-mail I use to receive your work product.

Include your personal identification information in any answer you "attach" to e-mail, otherewise you may not get full credit for your answer.
